It's a task that not many people want to take up their weekends or evenings tackeling...organizing that closet, kitchen cabinet, garage, etc. Most people just don't know where to start. We all have "stuff" and most people have too much of it! My best advice is to have a plan of action. Some people are better motivated by starting with the areas that need the most work and then moving on to the next area. Others like to start with an area that isn't too bad so that they can get an immediate sense of accomplishment. Whatever works best for you, just get started and completely finish one area before moving on to the next. Fall and Spring are the perfect times of year to dive in and get organized! Always have a Keep box or pile, a Donate box or pile and a Trash box or pile. If you are organizing a clothes closet or dresser drawers you may also need a small Repair box for things that need hemming or mending. For clothing, if you have not worn something in the past 12 months chances are you will not miss it once its gone! Only donate things that are in good condition whether it's clothing or household items. Anything in bad or damaged condition should be tossed. Take before and after pictures. These photos will motivate you to do more and to not let things get out of hand again. Photos are also a great way to really see your hard work.
