I’ve been creating a few faux pumpkin arrangements lately, that will go just about anywhere. REALLY! On top of a stack of books, on a side or coffee table, on a breakfast room table, in a bookcase, etc., etc. Make three & put down the center of your dining room table for a pretty fall table scape. Need decorations for a fall birthday bash? Here ya’ go!

Think about these for a fall bridal shower. They make very pretty fall wedding table decorations too! How about one at the guest registry table? They can be used throughout a fall wedding venue and they won’t cost a fortune but they’ll look like they did. Guest can take them home after the party is over. Only the size of the faux pumpkin determines where they look best (all about the scale/size right?). Here we go….

  1. Start with a (good) faux pumpkin. The one I used here is ceramic but there are very realistic looking resin ones out there too. You can use a real pumpkin but of course it won’t last long & I like to be able to reuse the ones I make. Up to you whether you use faux or real.

  2. Hot glue 3 faux mums (good quality) in the center. The size of the mums you use will depend on the size of the pumpkin you use (you may even want to use 5 mums if your pumpkin is large enough, just be sure to use an odd number of mums). Be sure to not leave any gaps. Rotate your mums to fill the gaps then glue down (using hot glue). You could also just use 1 REALLY large mum in the center but I prefer the 3 mum look.

  3. Now, lift the edges of the mums & strategically place & hot glue a few (good quality) faux green leaves so they are peeking out from under the mums. Now fill in here & there between the leaves with moss (hot glue the moss to the pumpkins and/or leaves).

You can use a different shade of mum & pumpkin if you’d rather (white pumpkins with multi-toned beige mums look amazing, using leaves & moss with this same color combo too). Sunflowers work great too if you prefer them over mums. They can work with orange or white pumpkins! Play around and pick your materials carefully before getting the hot glue gun out. There are SO many options! FYI…careful with the hot glue if you aren’t familiar working with it. It IS HOT! *follow manufactures instructions for safety measures

Shop your own house first to see if you have any pumpkins, mums, leaves, etc., that can be used. IF not…shop places like: Michaels, Hobby Lobby, Home Goods, Target, Walmart, World Market and similar places. Don’t forget to check your local Goodwill & other thrift shops too. Thrift shops often have pumpkins you can use and even greenery that you can take apart & use bits of for projects like this.

You may find great pumpkins one place and then need to hit your local craft store for the mums, leaves, & moss. I suggest you buy your pumpkins first so you know your color theme & size of pumpkin(s) you’ll be working with. Don’t forget…you can always paint a pumpkin too (an added step but well worth it if needed). You may find a pumpkin you love the shape of but not the color…paint it! Let it completely dry (at least over night) before adding the other steps. *follow paint manufacturers instructions for best results

Make sure you only buy realistic looking materials that not only look real but also feel real to the touch. Otherwise, it may look cheap (yikes). Realistic materials don’t have to cost any more than cheap looking materials. Trust me, I’ve shopped high & low for good quality materials FOR YEARS! You just have to stay focused on what you need, be patient and you’ll find just what you’re looking for to make your own masterpiece. YAY YOU!

Pop a spider or two on the mums during Halloween (don’t glue in, just carefully place them in). These pretty pumpkins make great hostess gifts too if you’re headed to a friend or family members house for Thanksgiving. They make such a pretty AND thoughtful gift (since you made it). I also LOVE that these can be used throughout the entire fall season. I LOVE FALL Y’ALL!!!

Happy Sprucing!
