3 Steps/3 Items~ EASY DIY Floral Centerpiece Arrangement! 🍃Spruce-us.com | @SpruceStudioShoppe

This is one of my favorite arrangements EVER! I’ve changed it out numerous times according to season/mood/what have you. It’s super fast & inexpensive too. I used silk hydrangeas in my photo here but you can use silk or dried hydrangeas (I’ve used both in the past). You can also use sunflowers, cabbage roses, peonies, whatever your heart desires. Just choose good quality if you’re going with silk flowers and the bigger the flower the more impact and more often than not…the more inexpensive the arrangement will be because you’ll need less, right? Bigger flowers fill more space.

It’s only 3 Steps & only takes 3 Items and it’s such a fun & quick project that gives you a lot of bang for your buck!

Here’s an example of what you’ll need:

I used a rectangle wire basket that has a solid metal bottom. If you choose a basket like one of the above, that doesn’t have a solid bottom then place a layer of preserved moss in the bottom (or better yet, a thin piece of cardboard or even a brown paper bag or cloth cut to size) so that your stems won’t poke through the bottom and scratch your table. I don’t like using styrofoam for this project unless it’s just to cover the bottom NOT to stick the stems into. Sticking the stems into styrofoam for this project I find makes it too contrived BUT…feel free to try it.

Try to find a wire basket with a solid bottom if possible. Sometimes the bottoms are wooden if not metal, which works great too. The examples above will certainly work, just remember to “line” the bottom to protect your furniture from the stems sticking through the bottom and scratching your furniture. IF you end up using a piece of cardboard or even a cloth or a paper bag…then this project actually becomes a 4 Step/4 Item DIY project (wink).

Also, “shop your house” for wire baskets that can be used for this project. Think outside of the box (or basket in this case), you may have wire baskets you use for other things around your house that you can repurpose for this arrangement.

If you don’t have a nice wire basket or don’t have one that’s the right size for your project…look at Target, Walmart, World Market, Bed, Bath & Beyond, Micheals, Hobby Lobby, JoAnn’s and of course Amazon has a ton to choose from too. If you aren’t in a big hurry, look at your local plant nursery & thrift shops too for deals on wire baskets.

The purpose of using a wire basket like mine (top pic), is so you can see the moss peeking through. That’s what I love about this arrangement. You can use one type of moss or a couple of different types like shown in my example above.

SO…you get your wire basket, pick your flower of choice and get yourself a bag of moss. (The 3 Items) NOW…take your empty wire basket, place some moss in the bottom (even if your basket has a solid bottom), start placing your florals in the basket (tilting some to the side, placing some straight up, etc., play around), then after ALL of your florals are in place…start placing more moss all along the sides to hide the stems. Just pull the flowers around the edge of the wire basket back a bit & place the moss down along the inside (The 3 Steps).

This part will be a bit messy but WAY worth it! After you have all of your stems covered where you can’t see any of them from any side of your wire basket…sit back and enjoy!

As far as the stems go, you can cut them a bit if you’d like but don’t cut them all the way off. The stems will stabilize the flowers. I usually don’t cut my flower stems AT ALL. I just bend them into the direction I need them to fit into the container with the rest of their new neighbors. PLUS…I may need those long stems in a different arrangement someplace else so I never cut, just bend them.

Good silk flowers of all types can be found at Pottery Barn, Silks Are Forever (online) as well as your local craft stores in many cases. Search sales online for your best selection if you don’t have access to shops in your area. Pottery Barn often has sales on their faux florals.

Easy as 1, 2, 3 (well, 4 if you need to add a piece of cardboard or something in the bottom of your basket).

Pick your flowers to match your decor, the season or your mood. Have fun and enjoy!

Happy Sprucing!
